Soup vicious

I just made soup for the first time. I know in everyone else’s house soup is a regular meal cooked by mom and they have their own family traditions and secret recipes… Not mine. The last time my mum made soup she served everyone food poisioning- which has scarred me from ever attempting it and living a life of progresso and cambells canned goodieness. Other than tasting like a salt lick, it’s terribly high in aweful ingredients and horrible in making you feel well- rather, leaving you bloated and desiring substinance.

Tonight’s venture was inspired by a friend of mine at work, who had studied to be a chef at one time and touted that “the best soup recipe in the world is one of those soup kits you buy in the grocery stores of all vegetables and Amy’s vegetable stock!”

I recently found my new love store- the Stiles’ farmers market in Pembroke pines- yes, if you’re from there, across from the mall. Other than it gloriously being close to Panera <3 -it has the best arrangement of fresh produce and insanely great prices. I bought one of the nifty "soup kits" for $1.99 there- and thought- I have to try it. Publix failed me, yet again, as the stores near me did not carry this magical "Amys vegetable broth" so I bought another brand…

I began this evening by chopping it all up- the turnip, the leek (I had to look those two up- they were in the package and I couldn't tell what they were…lol) an onion, lots of cilantro, carrots, celery, and Rosemary. I also searched the fridge for whatever I could add, a potato, zuccini, broccoli and garlic cloves. I discovered I don't like rosemary- it made the soup stink and I viciously looked for whatever I could add to get rid of the "soup kichen" smell. I even added fresh Ginger to quell the taste. I added a half of a cup of vegetable broth- only to see the "best by" date was in May (insert food poisioning panic here) In the end, I had this uber thick soup full of stuff, but nothing more than soup flavor. It tastes good for soup, but leaves something left to be desired.

Oh well. First time for everything, right?
